Homearama 2013 comes to Mint Hill
by Melinda Johnston, South Charlotte News
Charlotte HomeArama 2013 is coming to The Woodlands at Cheval off Lawyer’s Road in Mint Hill in November.
Produced by the HomeBuilders Association of Charlotte, the event opens fully decorated custom homes to the public for a few weeks each fall.
HomeBuilders Association Executive Director Kathryn Lewis says it’s an honor for a community to be chosen to host the event.
“This is an event that has a very long history in Charlotte. There are a number of factors that our selection committee considers before a decision is made. We are very excited to be working with Cheval. It’s a beautiful neighborhood,” Lewis said.
Five homes in Cheval are expected to be open for the tour.
Mint Hill senior planner John Hoard said the event is another indication that the economy is improving and development is ramping up in Mint Hill. The number of building permits issued by Mecklenburg County for Mint Hill seems to support that premise.
In 2006, there were 322 permits issued in town, mostly for single family, residential construction. By 2010 that number had dropped to 19 for the entire year. Already this year, 41 building permits have been issued and the number continues to grow even though no new subdivisions have been approved.
Hoard said builders are buying and developing lots approved in the past.
The Cheval community has been in the planning stages for a while, and several homes are complete. Developer Paris Projects is beginning a concentrated marketing effort for the community with oversized lots, custom homes and natural surroundings.
Builder Developer Advisors’ Diane Austin, who represents Paris Projects, said it’s a unique situation for the developer and the town.
“We are so excited about what’s happening in Mint Hill. We have the new hospital on Albemarle Road. … Things are really starting to come together for Mint Hill. Homearama 2013 is going to be phenomenal.”
